Acceptance criteria are the specific, testable conditions a deliverable must meet for the buyer to consider it complete and approved.
A requirement without an acceptance test is a dispute waiting to happen. Good criteria are measurable ('syncs 100K records in under 10 minutes with zero data loss'), so 'that's not what we meant' can't become a billable change.
